Eventful Week for Qeqertalik Business Council

February 21, 2024

Qeqertalik Business Council has just concluded an eventful week packed with various exciting initiatives, in addition to our daily tasks, which include advising entrepreneurs. Here’s a glimpse into what took place:

New Productive Employee

Since the beginning of the year, we welcomed a project manager tasked with planning the numerous action plans outlined in our company’s annual agenda. This has been evident through numerous kickoff meetings, showcasing our new colleague’s efficiency in initiating tasks. We look forward to continued productive development in our region.

Mentorship Program

Furthermore, we hosted one of our regular mentorship meetings with interested business owners in the municipality who wished to participate in a mentorship program. In collaboration with Resonans, a part of USAID from the U.S. government aiming to foster dynamics and development between Greenland and the USA, we initiated this mentorship program, with our region being the first in Greenland.

Promotion Abroad

Our Destination Manager, working to promote tourism in our region, regularly meets with colleagues along the coast to prepare for our joint promotions abroad. In May, we plan to participate in Adventure ELEVATE in Austria, where our colleague will meet travel agents and journalists interested in selling and promoting adventurous products, including those from our country to the rest of the world.

Tripartite Meeting

The past week also included one of our quarterly meetings between the municipality’s leadership, the local business community, with Qeqertalik Business Council as an intermediary. These coffee meetings serve to update each other on various challenges and mutual desires, fostering discussion to collectively drive development in our community.

Board Meeting

The Qeqertalik Business Council’s board also had its first meeting of the year during that week. During the meeting, the board was briefed on the numerous tasks and initiatives of both Qeqertalik Business Council and Destination Diskobay. The board hears about the implementation of their strategy in practice, actively discussing and influencing the various initiatives we undertake.

Visit from Tusass

We hosted a visit from Tusass, where the outgoing CEO, Kristian R. Davidsen, along with the newly appointed CEO, Toke Binzer, shared their thoughts on Tusass’s upcoming strategy. They sought input on what Tusass should consider moving forward. Topics included the upcoming national park in the municipality, where safety could be enhanced through upgrades to their radio chain connections with mobile and internet signals. Additionally, we discussed their tourism mobile products, Greenland Travel Sim, as well as products for small and medium-sized businesses that may require adjustments as needed.

Service Course

As part of our preparations for the airport expansion in the neighboring municipality, we’re also working on competency development in various forms for the benefit of our citizens. Friday featured a full-day course focusing on cultures and personalities, communication styles, and conflict management, aimed at providing better service by understanding the customer’s situation.

Distinguished Visit

Over the weekend, we had a visit from Naalakkersuisoq for Business and Tourism, Naaja H. Nathanielsen, accompanied by Visit Greenland’s director, Anne Nivíka Grødem, and Nalik Ventures’ Thomas ‘Tyt’ Mogensen. They met with local politicians, tourism stakeholders, and citizens to discuss the upcoming tourism law and hear our opinions. Topics included citizen involvement, taxation forms, strengthened education, and zoning of various areas in our municipality. Additionally, we had a close dialogue with Visit Greenland and Nalik Ventures, discussing our opportunities and strengthened collaboration.
