On May 22, 2024, the Board of Directors and the owners of Qeqertalik Business Council A/S held their annual general meeting in Aasiaat. In 2023, an important decision was made for the company with the signing of a four-year service contract. However, 2023 was also a challenging year in terms of staffing, leading to delays or temporary cancellations of some planned initiatives. Despite these challenges, Qeqertalik Business Council A/S achieved a post-tax profit of DKK 362,811 in 2023, which has been approved by the board and the owners. A proposal to use the profit for renovating the annex of the administration building and converting it into a tourist office has been submitted to the municipal council for approval. Despite the staffing challenges, the company has been busy, with various preparations underway for the new airports in Ilulissat and Nuuk.
Highlights of initiatives in 2023
Once again, the Business Council visited all settlements in the municipality and held meetings with businesses and entrepreneurs, some of which have formed the basis for the municipal council’s budget. This was done based on the Business Council’s obligations under the service contract with the municipality. In 2023, Qeqertalik Business Council A/S participated in the Nordic Workshop in Frankfurt, the Adventure Travel World Summit™ (ATWS) in Japan, AECO in Oslo, VestNorden Travelmart in Reykjavik, and the Arctic Circle Assembly to promote Qeqertalik. Additionally, road signage in Aasiaat, aimed at making locations more accessible, has been completed.
Guidance for entrepreneurs and citizens
In 2023, Qeqertalik Business Council organized a series of courses, workshops, and seminars benefiting entrepreneurs and citizens. The Business Council emphasizes competence development as a crucial part of its strategy. They have conducted various courses for citizens focusing on business planning, budgeting, financial management, and tax rules, all aimed at helping entrepreneurs.
Guidance on service and trade management was provided, including a workshop on applying for grant funds, aimed at improving the organization’s internal procedures and cross-organizational collaboration.
General Meeting 2024
At the annual general meeting, the Mayor of Kommune Qeqertalik participated on behalf of the owner, along with the company’s board and CEO. The financial statement for 2023 shows a profit of DKK 362,811 compared to a profit of DKK 122,904 the previous year. It is emphasized that generating profit is not the goal, as the municipality finances the company under a service contract intended to implement the agreement’s provisions. The aim is to use the funding to develop business and tourism in our municipality. At the meeting, Hanne Kristiansen, owner of Anuni and CEO of INUIT Quality Clothes Of Greenland, was re-elected as Chair of the Board. Julie Pars, elected as Vice-Chair on November 22, 2023, continues as Vice-Chair. Hans-Jørgen Mørch and Kristian Lyberth were re-elected as board members, while Hans Arkalo Lyberth Didriksen was elected as the representative for GE Qasigiannguit. Søren Hansen was elected as the representative for GE Aasiaat and Kangaatsiaq, and Kristian Lyberth was re-elected as the representative for GE Qeqertarsuaq. As planned, the auditor attended the annual general meeting and presented the financial statement. The board expressed the desire for future general meetings to be livestreamed, so they can be followed online. Although the intention was to livestream this general meeting, technical issues prevented it, and the meeting was instead recorded.
