The Business Council of Kommune Qeqertalik is pleased to see the long-standing vision of a gravel road between Qasigiannguit and Ilimanaq moving closer to becoming a reality.
The project, which for many years has been a key wish among both local businesses and residents, has been thoroughly discussed at our business workshops in Qasigiannguit over several years – and now this shared ambition is beginning to take shape.
In September, the mayors of Avannaata Kommunia and Kommune Qeqertalik met to discuss strengthened cooperation across municipal borders, where the road construction project was once again highlighted as a central development initiative.
Avannaata Kommunia has now officially given the green light for the project planning phase, and both municipalities stand united behind the vision.
Why is the road important?
A gravel road between Qasigiannguit and Ilimanaq will:
- Create stronger business connections across the municipalities
- Make it possible to distribute tourism more evenly throughout the Disko Bay region – particularly relevant with the opening of the new transatlantic airport in Ilulissat
- Support local businesses and the experience economy
- Reduce pressure on Ilulissat, which continues to receive an increasing number of tourists
- Provide both residents and the business community with better access to new opportunities
We Support This Initiative – and Look Forward
The Business Council of Kommune Qeqertalik wholeheartedly supports the project and sees great potential in the new opportunities the road will create for the entire region.
We are proud to stand together with our neighboring municipality behind a shared vision that strengthens cooperation, development, and growth – ultimately benefiting residents, visitors, and the business community throughout Disko Bay.
We look forward to the next steps – and to a future where our region becomes even more closely connected.
