Arctic Circle Assembly 2021

October 18, 2021

Gerth P. Olsen, Managing Director of Qeqertalik Business Council, participated in the Arctic Circle Assembly 2021 from 14 to 16 October in Harpa Reykjavik.

The conference, which is primarily about the Arctic, was established in 2013 by former Prime Minister of Greenland Kuupik Kleist together with the former Icelandic President Ólafur Grímsson and the news publisher from Alaska Alice Rogoff, with the primary focus on setting the Arctic agenda, both politically, business, tourism and research worldwide.

Climate change, which i.a. takes a focal point in the melting Greenland ice sheet, is contributing to the initiation of dialogue and relationship formation between Arctic organisations with stakeholders from the rest of the world. It can for instance deal with the business aspects of the new route via the Northwest Passage, or foreign investors who would like to explore opportunities for investments in Greenland.

“I think the conference lacked a coordinated business promotion from our regions in Greenland. Going forward, this unique forum could be a fantastic opportunity for business-related organisations, where there is direct access to potential foreign investors and organizations / companies that might wish to form closer relationships with business stakeholders in Greenland. Here, for example, the Greenland Business Association, Greenland Venture and the business councils in the regions could be represented with exciting joint initiatives or with presentations of the various opportunities in the regions that could capture the interests of investors ”. This is what Gerth P. Olsen, Director of Qeqertalik Business Council & Destination Diskobay, says.

The Business Council participated in the Arctic Circle conference following the stay in Iceland, where Destination Diskobay also participated in the Vestnorden Travelmart, which promoted the Qeqertalik region during the tourism promotion. Where there was also an opportunity to meet with other business and tourism promotion companies in Northern and Eastern Iceland, which Qeqertalik could be inspired by.
