The board of Qeqertalik Business Council & Destination Diskobay held their annual thematic meeting in early September in Aasiaat and Kangaatsiaq.
In connection with this, they also participated in the quarterly three-party meeting between the business community and the Qeqertalik Municipality, gaining valuable insight into the discussions between the parties.
On one of the days, the board took a day trip to Kangaatsiaq, traveling with a local boat operator from Aasiaat. Joining the trip was also Jens Christian Jacobsen, Nalik Ventures’ new business advisor for the region, who had traveled to the municipality in connection with Naalakkersuisoq Naaja Nathanielsen’s planned but postponed visit. Upon arrival, the board was welcomed at the municipal office by the town manager and then went on to the community hall, where they received a presentation on the Qooqa Festival and its significance for the local community.
During a guided walking tour of the town led by the town manager, the board gained insight into daily life and local challenges, including a visit to the landfill. A key highlight of the visit was also the new public school, Iparartarfik, where the school principal welcomed them and shared lunch with the board, while several interesting questions were asked about the school’s role and the town’s development.
“It was a great experience to visit Kangaatsiaq and meet both the municipality and local stakeholders. We have gained valuable insight into daily life, challenges, and opportunities – and the visit emphasized the importance of working closely with local communities,” said Hanne Kristiansen.
