One of Qeqertalik Business Council’s goals is to promote sustainability, and for this reason, we continuously hold courses on sustainability within the Qeqertalik Municipality.

Each year, Qeqertalik Business Council travels to all towns and settlements to conduct citizen consultations and courses, as well as to speak with individuals who are interested in starting their own businesses or becoming entrepreneurs. During these visits, we also provide guidance and advice.

One person who is particularly passionate about sustainability is Kirsten S. Pedersen.

Kirsten is self-employed and runs the business Kuannit Art.

Kuannit Art is a art shop in Qeqertarsuaq that focuses on sustainability. Kirsten S. Pedersen places great emphasis on developing businesses by utilizing Greenland’s own resources. In addition, she operates accommodation facilities in the town, which are especially popular with tourists during the summer.

When we asked Kirsten about her focus on sustainability, she explained the following:

“Through the sustainable utilization of Qeqertarsuaq’s nature and rich national resources, the area holds significant potential for economic development. However, it is crucial that the environment is managed with care and responsibility, ensuring that it is protected and preserved clean and intact for future generations.

During the summer season, when tourism is at its peak, visitors at Kuannit Art appreciate the respectful and sustainable use of natural resources. For example, the use of recyclable packaging is welcomed, and tea made from plants from Qeqertarsuaq attracts great interest among guests.

Kuannit Art places great importance on being able to offer products and handicrafts created by local residents of Qeqertarsuaq, so that the initiative contributes positively to the entire local community. This is also something that tourists show great interest in and highly value.

It is of vital importance to promote sustainability both in Qeqertalik Municipality and at the national level, and I am committed to continuously contributing to strengthening and supporting this development.”
