Business Council Visits Qeqertarsuaq

The board of Qeqertalik Business Council & Destination Diskobay held on Thursday September 5 their annual theme meeting in Qeqertarsuaq, one of the four towns in the municipality. The meeting, which rotates between the towns, was combined with business visits and experiences in the town to gain insights into the local business community and tourism offerings.

Meetings with local businesses

The morning was dedicated to the board meeting, while the afternoon focused on meetings with several local businesses:

  • Kuannit Artwork Qeqertarsuaq: Over the past six years, Kirsten S. Pedersen has built a successful souvenir shop that highlights Greenlandic art and local experiences. During the visit, Kirsten presented her work in tourism and sustainable development in the town, while the board was served homemade tea brewed with local herbs from the nature surrounding Qeqertarsuaq.
  • Nukariit Qeqertarsuaq ApS: Anders, one of the two brothers behind the mechanic business, shared the company’s development and future plans. Qeqertalik Business Council provided advisory support during the startup phase, and it was a pleasure to see the company continue to grow and thrive.
  • Beach Igloo Lodge & Qeqertarsuaq Boat Tours: Lillian, the representative for owner Kasper Broberg, shared information about the company’s activities, including boat tours along the coast and overnight stays in igloos by the basaltic beach.
  • Disko Adventures I/S: Naja, who runs Disko Adventures with Danny and Steve, described their offerings of guided island tours, dog sledding, and other experiences for tourists. Although the company is relatively new, its popularity is steadily increasing as more visitors learn about their adventures.

Experiences in Qeqertarsuaq

In addition to the business meetings, the board also had time to visit the town’s shops, including Pilersuisoq, Kajuinna, and Café Bellamut. The board members stayed at Hotel Disko Island, where they tried the hotel’s outdoor sauna, and some braved the cold waters of Disko Bay. The hotel restaurant also served delicacies prepared from local ingredients.

“It was a pleasure and an inspiration to meet the local business owners and experience their work up close,” said Hanne Kristiansen, Chairperson of Qeqertalik Business Council & Destination Diskobay and continued: “We gained a valuable insight into the town’s tourism offerings and the business initiatives that support the local community.”
