Even greater focus on sustainability in 2023

In 2023, the Qeqertalik Business Council along Destination Diskobay will intensify efforts for sustainability in the work. This already started as the business council was established, and next year this focus will be further strengthened.

Many of the Qeqertalik Business Council’s action plans are based on the UN’s 17 Global Goals. As a newly started business council, the World Goals were written into the strategy from the start, and this has led to a major focus on sustainable development within business and tourism.

“It has been our aim from the beginning that we want to support sustainable and locally rooted development in our region,” says Gerth P. Olsen, director of the business council, and continues:

“Most of our action plans are directly inspired by the World Goals, as these are good benchmarks in a world like ours, where the region is developing.”

Six world goals integrated

In the past two years, the business council and the DMO have therefore worked together within the framework of at least six of the 17 World Goals, which make sense within the company’s field of expertise. It concerns the following:

On the Qeqertalik Business Council’s website you find further descriptions of efforts within the individual World Goals, but here the business council’s competence development courses (world goal 4), preparation and improvement of the infrastructure in the region’s cities through developing signs for attractions (world goal 9) and cooperation with the cruise industry organization AECO on sustainable development within cruise tourism – through community specific guidelines (world goal 13).

Intensified efforts in 2023

As the business council enters its third year, efforts within sustainability are also intensified. This will take place, among other things, through the development of CSR courses as well as offering advice to companies and actors regarding green certifications or similar initiatives, which can ensure a greener and socially sustainable development.

“Our region is undergoing development, and one of our tasks is to support that this can happen in a natural and environmentally responsible way for the benefit of a sustainable local community,” says Gerth P. Olsen and concludes:

“It is mandatory to have such goals, but there is great potential for progress within the work with the global goals and other sustainable measures in our region.”
