More entrepreneurs in counselling 2022
Qeqertalik Business Council held their ordinary general assembly on 17 May 2023 in Aasiaat. The year 2022 was a productive year for the Business Council, where several activities have been held for the businesses and the citizens of Qeqertalik.
A selection of the activities
Among other things, the Business Council has visited all towns and settlements in the municipality and held meetings with the business community and the entrepreneurs, in order to collect input for the municipal council’s budget-seminar, which the Business Council is obliged to according to their service contract with the municipality.
The Qeqertalik Business Council, in collaboration with AECO, made guidelines for how tourists and the locals should act when tourists come to their cities.
In collaboration with Avannaata Kommunia, seminars have been held in both Aasiaat and Ilulissat, for business and tourism actors throughout Disko Bay, to discuss challenges, growth opportunities and product development across the region.
Road signs and self-guide maps have been installed in Aasiaat to guide guests to the sights, eateries, museum, hospital, and airport, as the first city among the municipality’s cities. In addition, the company has formed partnerships and helped to promote the Qeqertalik region and its providers externally by participating in international fairs and conferences.
The above measures are among the many preparations to ensure that more visitors can and will come to the region’s towns and villages.
For the benefit of citizens
Qeqertalik Business Council has once again held several courses and workshops for the benefit of entrepreneurs and citizens in 2022. The Business Council has competence development as an important pillar in the organisation’s strategy. In addition, various courses have been held for the citizens, such as in the preparation of business plans, budgeting, financial management and tax matters regarding entrepreneurship.
Service and marketing have been taught. The local associations have been taught in fund-applications and brought together in a workshop to strengthen their internal processes and the cooperation between the associations. Compared to the previous year, the Business Council has been in dialogue with even more citizens for counselling in the municipality’s towns and villages. Citizens with entrepreneurial thoughts who want to hear about their options or need help to take the next step.
General Assembly 2022
The ordinary general assembly was attended by the Mayor and the Municipal Director who represented the capital owner Municipality of Qeqertalik, in addition the board and the general manager of the company attended.
The year’s result was a profit of DKK 122,904 against a profit the previous year of DKK 217,321. It should be mentioned that having a profit is not a goal in itself, as the organization is financed by service contributions from the municipality, to fulfill the content of the service contract. The success criterion is to use most of the funds for business and tourism development in the municipality.
The general assembly ended with a re-election of Hanne Kristiansen, owner of Anuni and director of Inuit Quality Clothes of Greenland, as chairperson of the board. The same applied to board members Hans-Jørgen Mørch, Julia Pars, Erne L. Olsen, Kristian Lyberth and Jakob Jensen, the latter, however, chose to resign from the GE local branch for Qasigiannguit and must be replaced by a new local representative.
Municipality Qeqertalik encouraged, as far as possible, to choose the new GE representative from Qasigiannguit amongst the tourism community, in order to keep a varied background among the board’s competencies.
In future, the auditor will participate in the ordinary general assemblies in order to do the presentations of the annual report directly from the auditor’s side.
The board wants future general assemblies to be held online as well, in order to create more transparency and openness towards the public.
