Basis for new collaborations across Disko Bay

The neighboring municipalities Avannaata and Qeqertalik met in Ilulissat last week to discuss growth opportunities and product development across the Disko Bay region. The seminar showed several new potentials for cooperation.

The business administration of Avannaata Kommunia had invited actors from all over Disko Bay to a seminar in Ilulissat last week. The Qeqertalik Business Council participated as a representative of Qeqertalik’s actors and politicians. At the seminar, the business council gave a presentation on the development in our municipality, where the various hotels’ expansion plans as well as the plans for a new cultural and business center in Aasiaat were presented.

Network and new opportunities

There were presentations from various players in business and tourism during the two days of the seminar. Among other things, Majoriaq gave a presentation on the labor market and growth, former leader of Visit Greenland gave a presentation on tourism inspiration from Iceland, while several self-employed entrepreneurs spoke about their start-up and ideas as inspiration for future entrepreneurs. Finally, Innovation Greenland/Greenland Venture was also present and gave a presentation on their support and financing offer.

In addition to the presentations, there was also room to expand one’s network at the seminar. Among other things, group work was organized across the participants, where you could spar and hear about each other’s thoughts and challenges. And lastly there was an almost professional snowball fight.

Increased collaboration

It has been rewarding for us to participate and to meet more of the players from Avannaata. We would have liked to have more representatives from our own cities at the seminar, but all in all it has been a pleasure to participate,” says Gerth P. Olsen, director of the Qeqertalik Business Council He points out that it was particularly interesting to start the dialogue about possible cluster collaborations in Greenland.

Finally, the seminar was also used as an opportunity to lay more words into the cooperation between Avannaata’s business administration and the business council, which both parties look forward to strengthening in the coming year.
